Hamlet – Hebden Bridge cinema

On Thursday the 5th of October, Brittany and I went to go see a screening of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Hamlet, we travelled to Hebden Bridge Cinema.

As Ophelia is a big part of what our film was about we felt it was important to learn about the whole film with context raUntitled-1.jpgther than the one part we found the most interesting.

When watching the play Ophelia is a very distant character but the whole play seems to spin of her actions and what happens, Ophelia is like the catalyst which she herself cannot deal with and descends into her own madness. The play seemed to have a modern take on the Shakespearian play for example Hamelt wore a Bon Jovi top for a considerable amount of the play which adds to the fact that what happened back then is still applicable into any time zone, things have not progressed. This is the same idea we have for our film we have chosen a Shakespearian character and made her fit into the modern world as our ideals and our uncomfortable feelings  with death is still extremely present in the 21st century. We still  romanticize death so that the living can deal with what happened rather than respect for the death and the trauma truly experienced.

Watching the play really helped me to see different meanings our film can portray what different angle we can include, it helped me to see that adding Ophelia in was the right call and that it is still something that can inflict emotion and is current today.
